WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Week beginning 27.09.21

Our Learning

We have had another fantastic week in Seals class. It has involved a hot write, marvellous medicines, negative numbers and much more!

English -

Within English this week, the children completed their first ‘Hot Write’. Children wrote their own historical narratives with some interesting plot twists! Once children had written their hot write, they used our writing toolkit to support them in editing and improving their writing. On Monday, children will produce one final neat copy of their work which will then be proudly displayed on our writing wall in the classroom!

Maths -

This week, children have been ordering numbers, rounding to the nearest 1,000, counting in 25’s and using negative numbers! We are slowly approaching the end of our place value unit of work. Next week, we will complete our place value unit and move on to addition and subtraction.

PSHE –

This week, we continued our ‘Drug Education’ unit of work. So far, we have looked at what is good and bad for our body, what medicines people may use and why, and how medicines and household products could be harmful to ourselves or others. During our lesson this week, we read an extract from the book, ‘George’s Marvellous Medicine’. We discussed the medicines and household products George used and considered how he may have misused these items. Children identified the risks and dangers of misusing medicines and household products, and recognised the importance of following rules and using medicines safely. To conclude, children created a fantastic list of helpful and sensible advice that they would give to George!

Homework -

Children have been given some English homework today. They have been tasked with editing and improving a piece of work. This is a great opportunity for children to practice proofreading and editing, focusing on key aspects of spelling, grammar and punctuation. The task has been explained in class, but if you have any questions about this, please do get in touch. This piece of homework is due on Friday 8th October 2021. Children should practice their spellings and times tables and read at home alongside this.
