What a brilliant first week back we have had! It has involved monsters, decimals and a whole lot of books!
To celebrate Book Week, our English lessons have been based around our class book, Varjak Paw. At the start of the week, we considered the emotions and thoughts of the main character, Varjak, over a sequence of different events. We then wrote a diary entry from the point of view of Varjak to show his reflection of this eventful day. Towards the end of the week, we used the book as a stimulus for writing a set of instructions.
This week we started our new Maths unit of work which has involved recognising tenths and hundredths, showing tenths as decimals and showing tenths on a place value grid.
On Monday, we had our ‘Iceland Day’. To kick start the day, children shared the interesting facts they had researched at home and created fact cards which are now nicely displayed on our topic wall. After this, we did some food tasting, which in this case was some Icelandic yoghurt! We then went on to create timelines to show the history of Iceland and even performed some drama about Icelandic myths/legends! To finish the day, children produced some northern lights pieces of art which look fantastic! I hope that the children enjoyed the day and continue to enjoy learning more about this fascinating country!
Book Café –
On Thursday, the children were given the opportunity to read snippets from a wide range of books, all of different genres. This is a great way for the children to try something new or read a book that they may not have chosen themselves!
Children have been given some Maths homework today which relates to the learning we have been doing in school. The task has been explained in class, but if you have any questions about this, please do get in touch. This piece of homework is due on Friday 11th March. Children should practice their spellings and times tables and read at home alongside this.
