Our Learning
We have had a joyous first week back! It has involved fireworks, counting squares and treasure!
English –
This week, children were introduced to our new unit of work, instructions texts. Their first task was to follow a set of instructions. They were given instructions to create a piece of firework art. The end results are fabulous and this task allowed the children to understand how important it is to give clear instructions! Throughout the rest of the week, the children have been reading and analysing a variety of instruction texts. They have identified features of instructions texts and made comparisons between texts.
Maths –
In Maths this week, the children have been learning about Area. This has involved counting squares to find the area of a shape, making shapes and comparing area. Next week, we will begin our Multiplication and Division topic.
History –
This term we are continuing to learn about the Tudors. This week, the focus has been on Queen Elizabeth I. We discussed what she was like as a queen, changes she made to England and events that happened during her reign. We explored the adventures of Sir Francis Drake and discussed the Spanish Armada. We had a class debate, thinking carefully about who is to blame for the events of the Armada.
Homework –
Children have been given some English homework this week which relates to the learning we have been doing in school. The task has been explained in class, but if you have any questions about this, please do get in touch. This piece of homework is due on Monday 7th November. Children should practice their spellings and times tables and read at home alongside this.
