The Hedgehogs have worked really hard this week! We have had a lot of tricky things to do this week, especially in our Maths and English, and the children have rose to the challenge.
In our Maths learning this week, the children have been consolidating their knowledge of subtraction by using different ways to subtract (crossing out, using a number line, using a ten frame to 'take-away'). We then moved on to looking at bar models, part whole models and ten frames and deducing addition and subtraction facts from the pictures. It was quite tricky but we got our heads around it eventually! We then had a go at answering some word problems, with the children's names in the questions! They enjoyed answering mathematical questions and used a lot of strategies to show their thinking.
In our English learning this week, the children have been planning their own stories based on the story of "Dinosaurs and All That Rubbish" by Michael Foreman. They thought of their own characters and they had to think of how the character would ruin the planet. The children created some fantastic ideas and have now produced some stories which are available to view on the Writing Progress Wall in the Hedgehog classroom.
In our Topic learning this week, the children have been learning about animal groups this week. We have looked at reptiles, amphibians, mammals, fish and birds. We then looked at some Australian animals, and we tried to determine what animal family each one belongs to. Next week we will look at whether animals are carnivores, herbivores and omnivores.
What a great week Hedgehogs, both Mrs Wain and I have been really impressed by you this week!
