Welcome back Hedgehogs. I hope you are all fully recovered and had a well deserved break!
The Hedgehogs have come back this week with an amazing attitude to their learning. It has been great to see that the children have remembered all the maths work that we have done before the Christmas break. In Maths, we have been learning about addition and subtraction, specifically adding two numbers to make a number greater than 10. We have been using lots of practical resources such as ten frames, cubes and stories to help count on from 10. Next week, we will be looking at addition sums and number bonds to 20.
In our English this week, we are looking at a story called 'Dinosaurs and All That Rubbish' by Michael Foreman. It is a fantastic book and highlights the issues of pollution on our planet. We have taken time this week, to remember the story of Dinosaurs and All That Rubbish through story maps, acting the story out and reading the story together. Next week, we will sequence the story, innovate the story and do some writing towards the story.
We have started a new topic for the next term. It is called 'Let's Save Earth'. It is an eco, environmental topic that teaches children about the wider world and the current issues that face our planet. This week, we have started to look at what our planet is made up of and we have learnt the 7 continents and 5 oceans that cover our planet. We also looked at the climates across the world and how it is hotter on the equator line. Next week we will be learning compass directions to plan our own journey to another continent and we will start to look at one continent in particular, Australia!
A fantastic week back Hedgehogs, both Mrs Wain and I have really enjoyed this week.
