WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Weekly Update - WC 14th October

We have had a wonderful, fun week in hedgehogs this week.

Thank you to parents for attending the Harvest festival service at St Wystan's church. The children performed really well and there hard work has paid off! Thank you to parents that walked with us to the church as well, it was very much appreciated.

In our English learning, we have been writing our own non-Chronological reports on Amazing People who help us. Children chose from a selection of different people; life guards, doctors, vets, policeman and even Lollipop ladies! The children used lots of question marks in their non Chronological report. The work is now displayed on our Writing Progress wall.

In Maths, we have been continuing our work on part whole models and we have been learning how we can create 4 addition sentences from one part-whole model! We looked at how if we swapped the parts around, then the answer does not change. We then looked at our number bonds to 10 and numbers smaller than 10. The children have really grasped number bonds and that will help when we start to do addition to 20 next term!

In Topic, we have been investigating our senses and this week we have focused on our sense of smell. We took part in an experiment and had to smell 10 objects in different cup, without using any other senses. Then we had to say which smell we thought were pleasant and unpleasant. The children really enjoyed this activity (but not cups 9 and 10 which were garlic and vinegar respectively!) and were intrigued by what was inside each cup. We then wrote about how our sense of smell is important so we can detect good and bad things and to identify dangers nearby. We will be continuing investigating our senses next week.

We now have a date for the Christmas productions. The dates are Tuesday 17th December and Thursday 19th. Both are at 2pm at the Repton Theatre stage. We have allocated parts to all the children. Lyrics and words will be provided next week. We sent out forms on Thursday providing suggestions for what your child could wear for their role in the production. If you would like to discuss costumes or your child's role, please don't hesitate to get in touch with myself, Mrs Wain, Mrs Baxter and Miss McKenna.

Topic Projects are also due Tuesday 22nd October. Parents are invited to come and see the projects of all the other children at 3:00pm on Wednesday 23rd October. Please sign in at Reception and a member from the Year 1 team will come and pick you up. Please do not take your child out of the classroom until 3:20pm as children will need to get their belongings together.

What a great week Hedgehogs, one more week and then half term!
