We have had a very busy week in Hedgehogs this week! We have produced some amazing rockets, and we have done some awesome painting this week. Look below to find out what we have been doing this week.
Maths
In our Maths learning, we have been learning about how we can estimate numbers on a number line. We learned that we can find the mid-point between two numbers on a number line to work out where other numbers could go on the number line. We played a really fun game to help practise this, which you can see here: https://mathsframe.co.uk/en/resources/resource/37/placing-numbers-on-a-number-line
We also learnt about how we can compare numbers up to 20 by using crocodiles (< - less than, > - greater than, = = - equal to). Look at the pictures and numbers below. Which crocodiles would you use between these two numbers?

English
In our English learning, we have been writing some sentences about the story of Zahra. We then have started to think of planning our own Kenyan-inspired stories by researching what it is like in Kenya. We looked at what adults and children of the Maasai tribes do in their daily lives. We then started to plan our own story map mountains, ready to write the story next week. Here are some pictures of the Maasai doing some jobs. Can you tell your grown-up something that the Maasai do which is quite surprising? Maybe you could write a sentence about what the Maasai do as well!

Geography
In our Geography learning this week, we have been continuing our learning on physical and human features. We looked at a village, a town, and a city in Kenya and we were using photographs to identify these features.
Art
We have done lots of Art recently! We have been learning about primary and secondary colours. Our first art lesson of the week was we looked at Jasper Johns artwork where he explores blending primary and s
econdary colours together (see artwork below). The children worked in pairs to create some amazing artwork, overlapping and blending primary colours and secondary colours together.
We also did another art lesson involving primary and secondary colours! The children were introduced to 'printing'. Printmaking is when you transfer or print ink or paint designed into a shape from one surface onto another. We used lego bricks and primary colours to print onto paper. We allowed the children to be creative and explore with patterns and colour!
Computing
In Computing, the children brought their rocket designs from a few weeks ago. Using plastic bottles, the children followed set instructions to decorate and create their rockets. We then tested them by throwing them across the classroom and measured the distance it travelled by using a measuring wheel. We then collected all the data to create a spreadsheet with all the data. We also discussed why the fastest rocket flew further and how we could improve our designs. Look below to find pictures of our rockets, and pictures of some of us recording our distance!
Phonics
In our Phonics, we have been learning about the au digraph, the air trigraph, and the prefix -un, used at the start of words like unhelpful, unfair and unkind. Please use the Monster Phonics booklets to continue to practise reading and writing these tricky sounds.
Spellings for dictation next week;
Have a lovely weekend! One more week to go!
