We have had a very busy week in Hedgehogs class this week! Find out what we have been doing below.
Maths
This week we have focused on using tens and ones to build numbers from 11 to 16. We recognised that these numbers all have a '1' at the front. This means they have a ten in their number. The second digit means the number of 'ones' leftover. We learned to count pictures and objects to 16 by recognising the 10 first and then counting on from 10. See if you can count the numbers shown below by counting the ten first, and then the ones. Can you write down the number correctly as well?
English
In our English learning, we have been learning about how to come
up with adjectives. We have been learning adjectives to describe Zahra's appearance. On Wednesday, we then talked about how we can create expanded noun phrases. An expanded noun phrase is a sentences that describes a noun using two adjectives, with a comma between the two adjectives. Can you have a go at creating a sentence about Zahra using an adjective? You could even try using an expanded noun phrase!
We also wrote some sentences about Zahra using the conjunction 'and'. Here are some pictures below. Can you write sentences about these pictures? If you do, feel free to bring them into school for some house points!
Geography
In our Geography learning this week, we have been looking very closely at the map of Kenya. We have looked at the physical geography of Kenya, looking at the different environments and physical landmarks that Kenya has. We learned where Kenya's rivers, lakes, mountains, deserts, beaches, oceans, rainforests and savannas were by using the maps.
Here is a map of Kenya from space. Can you tell your grown-ups where you think the words above are on the map. I have also put some pictures of some of the landmarks we looked at as well to help you!

Art
Our art unit this term is all about painting and using media. So far, we have been learning about how we can make secondary colours (green, orange and purple) using primary colours (blue, red and yellow).
Spellings and Phonics
In our Phonics this week, we have been learning the ew can make the /yoo/ sound. We have also been spending time recapping all the sounds taught so far in Year 1.
As from the letter I sent out earlier in the week, we are trialling no longer doing spelling tests. Instead, we will be using the Phonics and spellings learned in our lessons to write daily sentences, in what we call 'dictation' sessions.
