WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Week 3 - 19.1.26

We have had a great week in Hedgehogs class! Look below to find out what we have been doing this week.

Maths

In our Maths learning, we have been learning about the numbers 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, and 19. We have learnt that each of these numbers is made up of a 'ten' and a number of 'ones'. We have had a go this week at building these numbers using base 10 and then counting pictures of these numbers. Here are some Maths challenges below to have a go at!

Challenge 1 - Count/Read the number below. Can you match the representation on the left, with the representation on the right?

Challenge 2 - Which one is the odd one out and why?

English

In our English learning, we have created missing posters. We pretended that Zahra, who we have been learning about so far this term, had a brother called 'Newt'. We planned what we wanted to say in our description by using adjectives to describe him. We then went to the Year 6 children to show our writing so they could draw pictures based on our descriptions! You can see pictures of this at the bottom of this page! Here is a picture of Newt below. What sentences can you write to describe him?

Geography

In our Geography learning, we have been learning some more map skills. On Monday, the children created a key to identify different physical features of Kenya and the UK. The children looked at the shapes and colours to work out the different areas of these countries. Have a look below. Can you work with a grown up to identify each of the symbols?

We also had a go at using the compass directions (north, east, south and west), we learned these directions and applied these to find out what different animals live in the UK. Have a go at using the clues and the map below to find the animals. The white dots are the locations of these animals.

Computing - We designed rockets as part of our Computing unit!

Spellings and Phonics

In our Phonics this week, we have been learning the ie digraph (/igh/ sound), ie digraph (/ee/ sound), igh trigraph sound.

Please go on Spelling Shed to practise these sounds from this week;
