WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Week 6

This week has been full of Christmas cheer!  The children did themselves proud; performing their nativity on Monday to the school and again to parents on Thursday.  Well done Robins!  You were absolutely fantastic and should be so proud of yourselves.

Our learning has also centred around Christmas this week and why and how we celebrate Christmas.  We looked at Christmas traditions, talked about how we celebrate in our houses (decorations, food, presents, etc) and listened to the Christmas Story.  We also enjoyed singing Christmas songs!

In English we wrote about our part in the Nativity.  The children wrote who they were in the play, what they did, lines they said or about their favourite songs.

Can you write a sentence at home about your part in the Nativity?

In maths we explored squares and rectangles.  We know that a square is a special kind of rectangle that has 4 equal length sides.  We used this knowledge to make squares from match sticks.  We needed the same amount of sticks for each side in a square and 2 shorter sides and 2 longer sides for a rectangle.  We also made these shapes from unifix and noticed how 4 cubes made a square, so did 9 and so did 16.  We learned that these numbers are called square numbers because they make a square!

Can you sort the shapes?

Around the classroom we enjoyed lots of Christmassy activities, such as making calendars, cards, paper chains, colouring Christmas pictures, playing in Santa’s grotto in the role play, decorating Christmas trees by counting the sequins to match the numeral on the star at the top, spotting and counting the pictures in the Nativity games and more!

We enjoyed PE where we continued our Dance unit - At the Farm.  We practised remembering repeated movements and moving in time to the music.

In Monster Phonics this week we recapped all the sounds we have learned this term and practised reading and writing words and sentences containing these.

A couple of reminders for next week:

- Monday is our Christmas Carol Service at St Wystan’s Church.  Again, the children will be walking to the church, leaving just after registration.  We appreciate all the offers to help us walk there and back.  Please meet us in the front of school by 9:10am.  All parents are invited to watch the service and each class will be singing too.

- Our Christmas party is on Tuesday.  We have sent a slip home with a request for a little food per child, to share with the class.  Many thanks in advance for this.  The children can come to school wearing their Christmas party clothes.  Please make sure they are fit for the weather and playing outside too.

Have a lovely weekend and we will see you for the final 4 days next week!
