WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Updates W.C 04.12.23

We have had a really busy week this week - Christmas production rehearsals, long rainy walks to the Repton 400 Hall, a fantastic pantomime, and learning on top of all of this! The children have all been brilliant and I am so proud of them as all of this is very tiring. Have a look below to see what we have been learning about this week.

Maths

In our Maths learning this week, we started off the week doing something quite tricky. We learnt how addition  and subtraction can be linked together.  We learned that from a picture problem, you can find 4 addition facts and 4 subtraction facts! We are pretty good with the addition, but our minds were confused when we saw 4 subtraction facts! I have a picture below. Do you think you can find all of the 8 facts?

We also started our final unit of this Autumn term, which is where we will be looked at 2D and 3D shapes. We started by looking at some 3D shape names and their features. We specifically looked at what faces and properties the 3D shapes had. Can you match the 3D shapes with the names to the right?

We also built some towers using 3D shapes!

English

In our English, we finished off our HOT WRITES on Monday and then we edited our pieces of writing by correcting spelling mistakes and adding extra information. You can find our hot writes in our writing gallery wall in the Hedgehog bay.

History

In our History, we continued learning about Rosa Parks' life. On Thursday, we created our own RPS certificate for Rosa Parks and talked about why she deserved a certificate and about how important she was. Can you tell your grown-up what she did that was so special?

Phonics

In our Phonics this week, we have been learning about the graphemes of /ow/. We learned that ow normally comes at the end of words (except when it ends with an /n/ sound), and the ou digraph can normally be found in the middle of words (except in words like out, and outside). We also learned a new digraph for /oa/ and that was Miss Oh No's ow digraph. This can normally be found at the end of words like window, snow, arrow. Please use the Time to Read sheets to recap these words.

Spellings

Have a lovely weekend. We will be seeing a lot of you on Monday at the Repton 400 Hall for our KS1 Nativity performance of The Inn-Spectors!
