WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Week beginning 22.04.24

Our Learning

We have had a great couple of weeks in Seals class following the Easter break. This week has involved polygons, careers and bread!

English -

Our English unit of work at the moment is an adventure story, with a focus on using dialogue to advance the action and develop characters. At the start of the week, we boxed up our model text, thinking carefully about the general structure of our adventure story. We then created a double-page spread, generating as many ideas as possible for our writing. Having thought of different ideas, we were then tasked with formally planning our own adventure stories. We began writing our stories yesterday and will continue to draft and edit these next week.

Maths -

We have continued our shape unit of work this week. This has involved calculating missing angles, exploring angles in a quadrilateral, exploring angles in polygons, understanding the properties of a circle and drawing shapes accurately. We will continue our shape unit of work next week.

Science -

As we reach the end of our 'Living things and their habitats' unit, we have been learning about microorganisms. We have discovered what they are and have identified those that can be helpful and those that can be harmful. To investigate one of these further, we set up an investigation into the rate of mould growth. We worked together to plan the enquiry and have placed 5 slices of bread in different locations to test the rate of mould growth under varying conditions (light dark, cold, warm etc.). We will write a conclusion for our investigation next week before moving on to our electricity unit of work.

Homework -

Children have been given a sheet of English homework to take home this week, which relates to the learning we have been doing in school. We also ask that they practise their spellings, times tables and read at home as much as possible alongside this.
