WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

12.1.24

Welcome to 2024! I hope you all had a lovely restful and happy Christmas and New Year! We have definitely hit the ground running with the start of our new term and also brand new year! This week has consisted of lots of times tables, travelling to Iceland and a brand new Art topic of painting light and dark.

In our Maths lessons we have carried on with working on our Times Tables.  We have carried out lots of reasoning and problem solving questions to help us cement our knowledge of these tables as well as thought about what happens when we multiply by 10 and 0.

Over the next weeks, the Year 4’s will be doing daily times table checks using Times Table Rockstars in preparation for the Multiplication Table Check that will take place in June.  You can help your child with this by doing as much Times Table practice at home with them as possible.  Whether that be through the use of Times Table Rockstars or practising them with you at home. Should you want any booklets etc with questions in please let me know.

In English we have started our new unit of Historical Narrative stories, our model text is based in the Historical period of the Vikings.  We have developed our Dictionary skills by finding appropriate meanings for some of the words in our model text, we have also symbol mapped parts of our model text.  To help us develop our stories we have also thought about how we can describe characters and settings in as much detail as possible.

We began our new topic of Iceland for our Geography term this week.  We thought about where the Continents of the world were, what seas they are surrounded by and where Iceland and the United Kingdom are in comparison to each other.  We are looking forward to learning a huge amount more about this country this term.

We also started our new Art unit this week which will see us look at the different styles and techniques we can use to paint light and dark.

There will not be any swimming next Tuesday, so please come in normal uniform

I hope you all have a lovely weekend.
