Welcome back to you all, I hope you had a lovely half term!

We have been straight back to learning this week covering lots of SPAG objectives in English including use of apostrophes and different types of conjunctions. Next week, we have a very exciting week leading up to World Book Day on Thursday. We will be focussing on our class guided reading book of Matilda during the week, completing work using lots of different styles of writing. We are really looking forward to seeing the children dressed up as their chosen word on Thursday and will have some great activities during the day.

This week we started using Superhero Spellings, our new spelling scheme that follows on from Monster Phonics lower down the school. The children will be learning all about the characters that are linked to different sounds within words during our spelling lessons each week. The new spellings have now been added to Spelling Shed so children can still use this platform to help learn their weekly spellings. Just in case there are any teething issues, please be aware that we will test the words put in the reading record books. If you find a problem, please let us know and we will sort things out as quickly as we can.

In maths this week, we have completed our work on length and measure and started work on fractions. This can be quite a tricky concept to understand, so any supporting work at home with times tables that are essential will really help. On that note, it is supper to see the children using TTRS more and moving names up our display leader board.

Finally, we are really looking forward to meeting with you on Monday or Thursday to talk about your child’s progress and ways you can support them. Books will be out in the hall so please have a look and bring them through with you when you are called to the classroom.
