WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

W/C 06.11.23

We have had a lovely first week back after the half-term break! We are all ready for a busy but fun half-term!

In maths, we have been learning to add 3 1-digit numbers together. We have used our number bonds to 10 to help us. Show someone at home how to solve these addition sums using your number bond knowledge:

3 + 7 + 5 = ___

2 + 4 + 8 = ___

9 + 7 + 1 = ___

4 + 6 + 2 = ___

We have also been adding numbers to the next '10' using our number bond to 10 knowledge. For example:

23 + __ = 30

To work this out, we know that 3 + 7 makes 10, so therefore 23 + 7 = 30

Can you solve these?

46 + ___ = 50

62 + ___ = 70

29 + ___ = 30

37 + ___ = 40

Later on in the week, we started to add a 1 digit number to a 2-digit number, crossing ten. We know if we have a total number of ones that is greater than 9 we must exchange 10 ones for 1 ten. Take a look below:

In English, we have introduced our new unit of work: Conquering a monster Tale! Our story is called 'The Queen's Crown'. Can you tell someone at home what this story is about?

We have also been learning about adverbs this week. An adverb describes the verb (the doing word). Can you spot the adverb in the sentences below?

The monster roared loudly.

He painted his picture carefully.

The boy ran quickly across the playground.

We have also been exploring questions and exclamation sentences. Add a question mark or an exclamation mark to each of these sentences to make them questions or exclamation sentences:

a) What a beautiful day

b) Would you like sugar in your tea

c) What is your name

d) How kind of him to help her

e) Is this a question

f) What a dangerous mountain to climb

In topic, we have been looking at Victorian portraits. We explored photography, paintings and silhouettes. During the Victorian era, silhouettes were an affordable way for people to have portraits made.  We created our own!
