We have had a lovely week in the Owls Class.
In maths, we have been using our four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) to solve problems with volume and capacity. Can you show someone at home what you can do by completing the following questions?
We then explored temperature and learnt how to read a thermometer that moves up in 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s. Have a go at the question below:
Next week, we will be starting our new unit: Time. This can be a tricky concept for children and we have been doing lots of telling the time games in class to prepare ourselves. At home, please spend a little time with your children going through o'clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to. We will also be reading 5 minutes past and to the hours (e.g., 20 past 4, 10 past 7, 5 to 8, 25 to 2).
In English, we have continued with our poetry work. This week, we explored rhyming words and created our own rhyming word banks. We then innovated our poem by changing the second line of each verse. Can you remember what you changed them to? Use the model text to help you:
Finally Spring!
Everywhere I look I see daffodils bloom,
I can feel the strong sun after winter’s gloom.
I can feel the spring rain as I step out and go,
To the beautiful gardens where the flowers will grow.
I can hear the bees buzz from flowers to hives,
I carefully listen as the ice-cream man arrives.
As it is beginning to get warmer every day,
I leave my coat behind and run out to play.
I hear a cheerful song as the wind chimes ring,
I am very happy it is finally spring!
In science, we have started our new unit of work: Plants! We have been exploring different plants and their purpose. Look at the pictures below. Tell someone at home, which ones are fruit, which ones are vegetables, which ones are herbs and which plants should we not eat...
Later on in the week, we looked at different fruits and their seeds. We then compared them to each other. Can you answer the question below?
