Our Learning
We have had another fantastic week in Seals class. It has involved area, cities and an abundance of activities surrounding 'Time'!
English -
This week, we have started our new unit of work: non-chronological reports. So far, this has involved comprehending our model text, identifying features of a non-chronological report and writing an informative paragraph about a city, aiming to include many of our toolkit features in our paragraphs.
Maths -
Our Maths work this week has been centred around area and perimeter. This has included finding the area of a triangle, finding the area of a parallelogram, and calculating volume by counting cubes.
Geography -
In our geography lesson this week, we studied the history of Canada. In groups, we looked at a particular period of time and placed events from this time period on a timeline in chronological order. We then categorised events from this time period into political events, cultural events and others. We have now merged our timelines together to create one, humongous timeline about Canada!
Science Week -
We have had so much fun celebrating Science Week in school this week! It has involved learning about many famous scientists and completing a huge range of activities surrounding this year's British Science Week theme: Time. In our classroom, we have spent time learning about biomagnification in food chains (through a game of rock, paper, scissors!) and enjoyed conducting an investigation into jelly setting! On Wednesday, the whole school participated in a carousel of science activities. In KS2 this included making timers, protecting an egg, hiding a moth, understanding metamorphosis and learning about the brain!
Homework -
Children have been given a sheet of Maths and English homework to take home this week, which relates to the learning we have been doing in school. We also ask that they practise their spellings, times tables and read at home as much as possible alongside this.
