WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

22.9.23

This week in maths, we have been ordering and comparing numbers to 1000 and 10,000, using number lines. Understanding the unmarked intervals on the number-line is one of the tricky parts of this process. We are also working on building up speed and confidence using times tables. Please encourage your child to use Times Tables Rock Stars and also games such as Daily Ten https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/daily10 and Hit the button https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button The children really enjoy these games and you could make them a bit of a family challenge.

In English, we have been writing our own diary entries using all of the features we have been studying the last few weeks. It has been lovely to see the progress they have made in such a short time. Please encourage your child to do a little writing at home even if it is writing a shopping list or a diary of their own.

In our science work, we looked at where our electricity comes from. We talked about our increased use of electricity over the years, as more and more items are invented and become part of our daily lives. They found it hard to believe that there were no i-pads, lap-tops, mobile phones, games consoles or even micro-waves when I was a child and TV was black and white with 3 channels! Next week we will be learning about simple circuits and making circuits to light a bulb.

In art, we have been studying, tone and proportion. I apologise if the were a little dirty at home time as we had been using charcoal to draw a group of objects. Next week we will be making a collage and print making the week after. If you have an old shirt you could send into school, that would be really helpful to use as an apron to protect their cloths. Thank you.

Have a lovely weekend
