WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

W/c 25th March 2024

Well, it has been a short but busy last week of the half-term.  We have done lots of work on fractions, thought about features of persuasive letters and created excel spreadsheets.  Read on to find out more…

This week in English we have carried on with our unit on persuasive letters by identifying the features of a persuasive letter in our WAGOLL.  We also boxed up our WAGOLL thinking about what happened in each of the different sections of the letter.  This will help when we come to plan our own persuasive letter after half term.

In Maths this week Year 3 have been subtracting fractions, partitioning the whole and finding unit fractions of a whole.

Year 4 have been learning about equivalent fraction families this week.  They have also learnt about adding two or more fractions and adding fractions and mixed numbers.

Both Year 3 and Year 4 will carry on with fractions after half term which is why the children have a piece of Maths homework linked to this unit to do over Easter.

In Computing we have begun our Data Handling unit which focuses on weather throughout the world.  We have researched temperatures of major cities throughout the world and sorted them in a spreadsheet using a variety of different tools.

Our Topic lesson this week has focused on comparing the similarities and differences between the cities of Reykjavik and Iceland.  The children have created some very informative comparison sheets thinking carefully about many different aspects of the Human Geography in both places.

Reminders:

  • The spellings that were given out this week will be tested on Monday the 15th April. There are some superhero spelling sheets as part of their homework which will help them practice these.
  • They also have a piece of Reading Comprehension and as stated earlier a piece of work on Fractions.
  • Homework will need to be handed in on Monday the 15th April.
  • If you could continue to read with your child and make a note of it in their Homework diaries over the Easter holiday this would also be very helpful. Thank you.

I hope you all have a lovely restful and well-deserved Easter break.

Thank you for you your continued support over this half-term.

Stay safe
