WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Friction Experiment

We learned that friction can affect how a car travels down a ramp. We did an experiment to find out which surface allowed the car to travel the furthest. We talked about the different surfaces and whether they were rough or smooth. We then predicted how much friction the surface would create. We then predicted how far the car would travel and if it would travel further or not as far as the previous surface. We used words such as rough and smooth and the children were great at explaining their throughts. E.g. "The car won't travel as far because the surface is rough / bumpy." Or "the car will travel a long way because the surface is smooth." We learned that the smooth surface allowed the car to travel the furthest as it created the least friction and the rough towel surface did not allow the car to travel very far because it caused a lot of friction.
