WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

8.9.23

Welcome to your first weekly update for Squirrels! The rest of the class website will be updated over the next week. We hope you have had a lovely summer and are enjoying the recent sunshine.

It has been wonderful to welcome all of the children this week and be able to start getting to know them all properly. They have all looked so smart in their new uniforms! We have spent lots of time this week making new friends and getting used to new routines. The children have had lots of fun with colouring and craft activities such as making book marks and birthday cards, which will be useful during the year ahead.

We have started our first English topic which is diary writing. The first task was for the children to write about one day during their holiday. Over the next few weeks, we will learn and analyse examples of good diaries and learn about their features. We will then do specific tasks to develop understanding of each feature eg past tense and writing in first person.

Our first maths unit is place value to 1,000 for year 3 and 10,000 for year 4. We have started a little work on this today. We will also be working on times tables for both year groups and preparing the year 4 children for their Multiplication Tables Check next Spring.

Children have now all been given log on details and passwords for Times Tables Rock Stars and Spelling Shed. Please encourage them to go on to use these regularly as they are a wonderful support to learning and lots of fun. The children love finding out who has moved up the leader board each week and this is celebrated in assembly on a Friday. This will start next week.

All of your children will all be having PE on a Monday afternoon. Please send them in school PE kit for the day. In addition, year 3 children will come in PE kit on a Tuesday as they will have a second PE lesson. Year 4 children will be going swimming on a Tuesday. They should come in normal school uniform and bring swimming kit with them.

Next Tuesday straight after school we will be having our “Meet the Teacher” meeting in the classroom It would be really lovely to see you there! It is a chance for you to see your child’s classroom, find out a little more about work and routines and ask any further questions you may have.

Just a couple of final reminders. Please make sure you send a labelled water bottle every day and a heathy snack for playtime if you wish.

Have a lovely weekend

Mrs Walters and the Y3/4 team.
