WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Updates W.C 17.06.24

We have had a really good week, and finally we have had a bit of consistent sunshine! Look below to find out what we have been learning about this week.

Maths

In our Math learning, we have been learning all about mass and weight. On Monday and Tuesday, we started learning about how we can weigh objects. We found objects in the classroom and started weighing them using cubes. We then used this to compare the weight of objects, using the words 'heavier' and 'lighter'. The children were brilliant at this. Here are some pictures below;

We also learned about volume as well. We learned that volume is the amount of something that is in a container. We learned that there are many words to describe volume. We used the words empty, nearly empty, half full, more than half full, nearly full, and full to describe volumes. The children went outside and we made these volumes up using water and a variety of different containers.

Can you how different volumes at home to a grown-up? Can you show a glass of orange juice that is nearly full? Full? Nearly empty? Half full/Half empty?

I have also set Maths quizzes on this week's learning which you can find on Maths Shed. https://www.mathshed.com/en-gb/

English

In our English learning, we have been focusing on creating our own letters this week. The children chose their own address, the people they wanted to write their letters too, and what they wanted to write their letters about. The children produced some fantastic writing!

Can you write a letter to someone in your family? Can you include your address, a greeting an introduction, some reasons and an ending? Maybe you could write a letter to someone in school!

Science

In our Science learning, we started our new unit all about plants. We started by looking at lavender plants that Mr Armishaw had brought from his house. We identified features of these plants such as the stem, leaves, roots, petals, anther and flower. The children then drew the plant by carefully observing its features. Some children used magnifying glasses to look at the roots and leaves in more detail!7

We also went to see what wild plants were in our forest school area. Can you tell your grown-up what plants we saw on the field and in the forest school?

On Friday, we learned how plants grew by following the steps to grow our own plant. The children planted their very own pansy seed in a pot and we are going to observe its growth over the next few weeks to hopefully spot signs of roots, stems, and maybe even leaves and flowers (if we are lucky!). The children will get to take them home towards the end of the year.

Computing

In Computing, we created pictograms using Sketchpad. The children had to collect information from a map of a zoo, and then use that information to fetch pictures from Sketchpad to create a pictorial chart of the map.

Phonics

This week in our Phonics, we have focused on the air, ear (/eer/ phoneme), ear (/air/ phoneme) and are (/air/ phoneme). Please use the Time to Read Sheets to recap any sounds this week that your child has struggled with.
