WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

20.10.23

It was lovely to meet you all this week and tell you about how your child has settled into their new class. Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can help at any time.

This week in English, we have been writing a biography of Nicola Adams one paragraph at a time using our notes and skills learned over the last couple of weeks.

In maths, we have been consolidating some of our addition skills and learning how to set out column addition in our books so that it is neat and easy to understand. We will be learning more about formal column addition next week and going on to look at how we regroup numbers that go above 9 in a column. We have also spent time on times tables again. It would be a massive benefit to your children to keep leaning these at home every week.

The children have had a great time today in art using a technique called ‘scraffito’ where you scratch through a painted surface to reveal colours underneath. This developed their abstract designs using mixed-media.

In topic work this week, we have looked at the art of the Anglo-Saxons and in particular, illuminated lettering and the Staffordshire Hoard. We will be looking at some of these original artefacts next week on our trip to Tamworth Castle. We are all now very excited about this and it will round of our learning about the Saxons and lead nicely into our work on the Vikings who made this area their home.

On Monday, we will be walking to church for our Harvest service. Please make sure your child has a water-proof coat. Thank you in advance to those who have volunteered to walk with us.

For the trip, the children should arrive at school at normal time as we leave right after the register. They should wear normal uniform and bring a packed lunch and drink. If you require a school packed lunch, please let us know by Monday morning.  Children will also need a coat as we have a short walk from the car-park to the castle. We should be back at school for normal finish time but would let you know via Parent Hub if this was going to be any later due to unforeseen traffic issues.

Next week’s Spellings to be tested after the holiday.
