WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

W/C 29.01.24

We have had a 'rocking' week in the Owls Class!

In maths, we have completed our unit of work on 'Money'. We learnt how we can make £1 using different coins. Can you think of 3 ways we could make £1? We then used our knowledge to solve two-step problems. Show someone at home what you can do:

To finish the unit, we learnt how to find change. Remember, to do this, we find the total amount that we have in the first place and subtract the amount we have spent from that. Show someone how to work this out:

We also used our number bond to 100 knowledge to find change from £1. How would you solve this problem:

In English, we have started our new writing unit: persuasive writing. Can you tell someone at home what our model text is about? We have looked at persuasive language and how key words and phrases can influence our thoughts, such as 'you must', 'you will never go anywhere better', 'number one choice'. Next week, we will be designing our very own amusement parks, ready to write a persuasive advert. We have also learned to use the suffixes -er and -est in our writing. Can you change these words using the suffixes -er and -est? Remember the rules we learnt, if it ends in a 'y' change it to an 'i', if it ends in an 'e' drop the 'e' and if it ends with one consonant double the letter:

tall =

pretty =

cute =

wet =

In topic, we created our own dot paintings! These have been sent home today. Tell someone at home what you have learnt about dot painting and its origins. Later in the week, we developed our map skills. We used a map key to identify physical features on a map of Australia. Can you remember what features you identified?
