Art

Intent  - What do we intend our children to learn through art?

At Repton Primary School, we believe Art is an important part of children’s development and education. We believe that Art has the significant power to allow children to explore and express their individuality and creativity. It is our intent to ensure children at Repton Primary School have a rich understanding of the different aspects of art (such as line, tone, texture, colour and pattern), and ensure that this is developed throughout their school career. Our high-quality Art curriculum will inspire and challenge the children and equip them with the skills and knowledge to experiment, invent and create their own works of art. At the very heart of our Art curriculum are our key school values, Respect, Pride and Success. Through learning about the roles and purposes of art, the children will explore the impact art has had on contemporary life and that of different times and cultures. The curriculum is designed so that skills from the National Curriculum are progressive and built upon as children move through school.

Implementation - How do teach art at Repton Primary School?

At Repton Primary School we follow a broad and balanced Art and Design curriculum that builds on previous learning and provides both support and challenge for learners. We follow the Kapow Art and Design scheme that ensures and progression of skills and covers all aspects of the Art and Design curriculum. All classes have timetabled Art and Design lessons throughout the year covering the following aspects of art:

Children also have the opportunity to experiment and explore different artists and art forms within their History and Geography topics.
