Intent - What do we intend your children to learn through PE?
At Repton Primary School we aim to instil a positive attitude towards PE and physical activity. PE is an important part of school life and ultimately the children’s future well-being. It is therefore our intention to provide a broad, balanced and inclusive PE curriculum that ensures all children are positively engaged. Our PE curriculum ensures that our school values, Respect, Pride and Success, are at the forefront of every lesson. It is our intent to ensure children understand the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle and are equipped with the tools to do so. We aim to encourage healthy competition and cooperative learning through an inclusive approach to teaching PE.
Implementation - How do teach PE at Repton Primary School?
Get Set 4 PE
Our PE lessons follow a scheme of learning called Get Set 4 PE (GS4PE). We believe GS4PE provides the platform to achieve high quality, creative and engaging PE lessons across the school. The core value of GS4PE is to give every child the physical literacy and the emotional and creative thinking skills to achieve in PE and sport across the curriculum.
GS4PE is aligned to the National Curriculum and focuses on the development of the three fundamental movement skills of a child’s development: agility, balance and coordination. It allows for the progression of skills to be practised before applying to traditional and non-traditional games and encourages healthy competition and cooperative learning through an inclusive approach to teaching PE. Our PE curriculum map ensures that there is a clear progression of skills that is explored from the Early Years Foundation Stage through to Year 6.
GS4PE has a multi-ability focus and allows children to:
· explore and create their own games
· develop cognitive skills
· understand the benefits of health and fitness.
· engage in physical activity
· work as a team
