WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Week beginning 06.11.23

Our Learning

We have had a lovely first week back in Seals class! It has involved changes, mixed numbers, human evolution and experimental mark-making!

English –

Our first writing unit this term is newspaper reports. So far, we have looked at example newspaper reports, with a focus on our model text, to gage an understanding of the structural features and language features used in newspaper reports. Yesterday, we innovated our model text, changing quotes and witnesses, which allowed us to practice writing in the style of a news article, using a formal and factual tone. Today, we have been writing sentences using direct and indirect speech. Next week, we will plan a newspaper report of our own

Maths –

We have continued our fractions unit of work this week. This has involved adding and subtracting fractions, adding and subtracting mixed number fractions and solving multi-step word problems involving fractions. It has taken a lot of brain power this week due to the steps required to answer each question but all children have worked incredibly hard and pushed themselves to succeed - Well done Seals!

History -

We kickstarted our second 'ancients' topic this week, which is all about the ancient Greeks! This week, the children completed tasks which provided an introduction to the Greeks, teaching them about their legacy, who they were, where they lived, what their land was like, when they were around and some key historical events from this time period. The children discovered how we know about the life of the ancient Greeks and analysed some Greek pottery themselves to discover clues and paint a picture of their lifestyle. They then looked at key events which took place during the ancient Greek period and placed these in chronological order on a timeline.

Homework –

Children have been given Maths and English homework this week which relates to what we have been learning about in school. The tasks have been explained in class, but if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. Homework is due in school on Monday 13th November.
