Another good week! One more week until we break for a well-deserved break! Look below to find out what we have been doing this week.
Maths
In our Maths learning this week, we started by looking at what a number line was. We looked at how we can use a number line to help solve problems. On Wednesday, we started our unit on addition and subtraction. We started by looking at what parts were and what wholes were. Parts are another way of saying groups. We found out that parts together make a whole. On Friday, we learned about how we can use the part-whole model to add amounts together. See if you can work out the parts and wholes of the problems below. If you can bring your answers to school on Monday, I will award house points.
Challenge 1 Challenge 2
Challenge 3 - How many different ways can you complete this part-whole model?
Here is an interactive part-whole model that you can try at home!

English
In English this week, we have been continuing our work on instructions. This week, we learned about what nouns and verbs are. Nouns are naming words for people, objects, animals and things. Verbs are 'action' or 'doing words'. Here are two games that you can do to practise nouns and verbs;

We then looked at how we can use time conjunctions to help sequence our instructions. We wrote our instructions for how to make a spinning top using time conjunctions. We used pictures from our Mighty Writer to write our sentences. Can you tell your grown-up the instructions you need to make a spinning top? Can you use a time conjunction in your instructions?
Other Areas of the Curriculum
History
In our History learning, we continued to learn about homes in the past by comparing the past and present homes. We watched a video of a family who lived in a house 100 years ago. We identified the features we could see in the house, and then we created brochures to sell Mr Armishaw a house from 100 years ago! What features below would be in a house 100 years ago? Which features would be in a house today?
PSHE
In our PSHE learning, we celebrated Black History Month by looking at a figure who has contributed to achievements internationally. We learned about the life of Matthew Henson, an explorer who was considered the first person to reach the North Pole. We learned about his life and his achievements, and then we created portraits to honour and remember him!
Phonics
In our Phonics learning, we have been learning the split digraphs u-e, u-e and we have recapped the digraph ar. You can use the Monster Phonics booklet to help recap the sounds if you wish.
Spellings
We are very excited to perform our Harvest songs at St Wystan's Church. Thank you to all the parents who are accompanying the class there and back. I really appreciate it!
We are also very excited for our trip next Tuesday as well! If you have any questions, please get in touch with me.
Have a lovely weekend!
Mr Armishaw
