The Foxes have had a super first week back at school!
In Maths, the Year 4s have come to the end of their unit about length and perimeter. The children have really enjoyed this unit and have been successful in understanding what perimeter is and how to use their prior knowledge to work out the missing lengths of 2D shapes. Next week, we will be starting our Fractions unit.
In Year 5, the children have continued to look at decimals and looked at thousandths, both in fraction and decimal form.
Our new unit in English is based on the book 'The Kapok Tree' by Lynne Cherry. It's really captured their imagination and has linked perfectly to our work on Brazil and in particular, the rainforest. Within these lessons we have used our prediction skills to draw a kapok tree, predicted the ending, written in the style of the author and answered questions about the story.
In topic, we learnt about trade in Brazil and learnt what exporting is. Then, we compared British exports and Brazilian exports. We also learnt about Christ the Redeemer – the famous statue in Rio De Janeiro. The children used what they had learnt and wrote an information booklet.
In PSHE, as part of LGBT+ history month, we looked at a brilliant story called 'It's not okay to say gay' where we looked at when the term 'gay' is used negatively. The children then created a poster to educate others.
In science we have started our new unit: living things and their habitats. We focused on reproduction within plants and the process of pollination. In Music the children have started a new unit which is normally a favourite - the Fresh Prince of Bel Air!
