WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Week 5 - 29.6.26

We have had a lovely week in Hedgehogs this week. The children had their transition day on Wednesday where they got to spend a day with Miss Tyman and Mrs Taylor-Day. The children came back into the classroom with happy faces and excited for the new year. Only three more weeks left of Year 1!

Maths

We then started our new unit of Time this week. The children have been learning loads of new vocabulary all to do with time. On Tuesday, we learned the words 'before' and 'after' to sequence events, as well as using 'first', 'then', 'now'. On Wednesday, we learned the days of the week and how we can use 'yesterday', 'today' and 'tomorrow' to describe when things may happen. We learned that there were 7 days in a week, and that there are 52 weeks in a year. On Thursday, we learned the months of the year. We listened to a very catchy song to help us remember the months of the year, which I have included below. We learned a technique, using our knuckles, to help us remember how many days each month has.

Can you tell your grown-up the months of the year in order? Can you remember which months have 31 days, 30 days, and the month that has 28/29 days?

English

In our English we started to learn a new book called "The Queen's Hat" by Steve Antony.

It is a fun book about the Queen losing her hat all around London, and her men (and Corgis) chasing after them. We have started to learn the book through actions and storytelling. The children also learned the story by looking at a written version of the story to find some exciting features. Here are some photos below. Can you tell your grown-up what you are doing in this scene?

DT

In our DT learning, the children finished making their pop-up plant books. The children then evaluated them on things they liked and things they would improve in the future. The children really enjoyed making them! Here are some pictures below!

Phonics and Dictation

In our Phonics this week, we have been learning about when to use 'k' or 'c'. We have also recapped how to use the prefix 'un' before adjectives and nouns.

Dictation Sentences to practise:

  • Are the people here?
  • Keep on kicking the ball
  • Did he say he called?
  • I said to unload the car.

Have a lovely weekend - only 3 more weeks to go until we break up!
