We have had a lovely couple of weeks back. Firstly I just wanted to say thank you to the Hedgehogs for how they behaved with Mrs Ward last week during my absence on the Year 6 residential. Mrs Ward said that the children were brilliant and were a credit to the school. I was very glad to be back and teaching them this week. We have done lots of learning this week, so look below to find out what we have been learning about.
Maths
In our Maths learning, we have been continuing to count in our 2s, 5s and 10s, but we have been understanding how to use this knowledge to count equal groups. See if you can count the pictures below! Remember, you only need to count one group first, and then you can count in your 2s, 5s or 10s as they are all equal!

We also looked at arrays. Arrays are a way of arranging objects, numbers, or pictures into rows and columns. We learned that arrays are helpful to count objects correctly. They are also good for exploring and counting in groups too! Here is an array of 20 below. Can you get 20 objects at home and make a different array?

English
In our English learning, we have been doing some more work on the video of Bridge. The children have been involved in lots of writing opportunities to do with Bridge,; learning how to write sentences using a subject, verb and an object, learning how to use exclamation marks, and how to write a paragraph in a letter. Have a look at the words below. Can you create a sentence using these words? Can you use an exclamation mark in your sentence, or a conjunction 'and'?

Science
In our Science this week, the children have been doing some experiments to explore their senses. Here is what we have done this week.
Touch and Smell - We talked about our sense of touch and smell is good to alert us of any dangers, and to let us know about our surroundings. The children had to rely on their senses alone to work out what things were inside a box, and what things could they smell! We touched foil, sellotape, pom poms and even peas. We smelled vinegar, garlic, cheese and lime juice (Mr Armishaw was quite horrible with the smelling objects!)
Sight - We also did a quick experiment to see how our sight can change for some of us. We talked about how some people need glasses or contact lenses to see. We looked at an image to explore what short-sightedness looked like for these people. You can use this link to have a look at this at home.
Hearing - We also looked at how sound travels through our ears through sound waves to hit our ear drum. We looked at how listening to loud noises for too long can damage our ears. We explored what noises were loud and what noises were quiet using an online soundmeter (which you can have a go at using at home here!)
Here are some photos of us using our senses in action!
Computing
In our Computing, we looked at creating our photo stories, using plans we created last week. The children learned how to take a good photo with the IPAD. We learned that bad photos may be blurry, or have people in the background, or may be too dark/bright.
Phonics and Dictation Sentences
In our Phonics learning, we have been practising real and nonsense words in preparation for the Phonics Screening Check. We have also been learning about soft g, in words like giraffe, huge, and danger, and soft c, in words like ice, race and cent.
Dictation Sentences
We might have a race.
I need some ice cream.
That is a huge dog!
How old is the dice?
