WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Week Commencing 23.6.25

We have had a lovely week this week! We only have 4 weeks left until the children go into Owls class! The children are excited for their transition day next Wednesday. Look below to find out what we have been learning about this week.

Maths

We then started our new unit of Time this week. The children have been learning loads of new vocabulary all to do with time. On Tuesday, we learned the words 'before' and 'after' to sequence events, as well as using 'first', 'then', 'now'. On Wednesday, we learned the days of the week and how we can use 'yesterday', 'today' and 'tomorrow' to describe when things may happen. We learned that there were 7 days in a week, and that there are 52 weeks in a year. On Thursday, we learned the months of the year. We listened to a very catchy song to help us remember the months of the year, which I have included below. We learned a technique, using our knuckles, to help us remember how many days each month has.

Can you tell your grown-up the months of the year in order? Can you remember which months have 31 days, 30 days, and the month that has 28/29 days?

English

In our English, we completed our learning on persuasive posters. The children created plans for the theme parks that they created last week. The children then wrote their pieces of writing over two days by including features such as suffixes (est), prefixes (un) and using exclamation marks and question marks. The children all produced their best piece of writing and it showed how much their learning has come on over the course of the year.

Even more exciting, the children did not get their work looked at by me first, they went to the Year 6 Seals class to get their work looked at! The children went into Seals to persuade the children to invite them to their theme park. The Year 6's were brilliant and listened to the children read their writing. They also gave them some feedback on a 'ticket' for them to take home. Here are some photos below!

Science

In our Science learning, the children have continued their work on plants. We started this week by learning the steps to growing a plant. We then looked at how trees are a type of plant. We did a bit of a game to help remember the different parts of the tree, and then we went onto our school field to look at trees and make some observational drawings of tree. We looked at features such as the bark, trunk, roots, leaves, branches, twigs and the crown. Here are some photos of us looking at trees. We also went to look around our school to find examples of evergreen and deciduous trees. Can you tell your grown-up an example of a deciduous tree, or an evergreen tree? What do those words mean?

Computing

We also went and had an explore in the forest school, but not for trees, but for minibeasts! The children learned about how we can collect data and put it into a grid. We learned how to use tally marks and we went off in the forest school to collect data on which minibeast was the most common. We then came back to the classroom and we turned some of the data into graphs!

Phonics and Spellings

In our Phonics this week, we have been learning lots of spelling rules this week. We learned when to use a 'k' instead of a 'c' before certain letters, especially i, e and y. We learned words using the prefix 'un'. We also learned about polysyllabic words. We learned that many words contain syllables - another word for 'beats'. The children learned about two syllable words and how we can clap the beats to help spell the words. This week I have set spellings to help children practise clapping the two beats.

Have a lovely weekend Hedgehogs!
