WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Week 2 - 2.3.26

We have had a very fun week this week, with lots of World Book Day activities and lots of great learning. Thank goodness as well we have finally started to receive a bit of sun! Look below to find out what we have been doing this week.

Maths

In our Maths learning, we have been learning all about doubles. We watched a video to understand all about doubles. Here if it is if you want to watch it at home! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=At0quRa90rs

We then did a lesson on near doubles. This is where we can use doubles facts to find answers to sums where which are close to a double. For example 5 + 6 is similar to 5 + 5 = 10, but we need an extra one. Here are some pictures of us using cubes to find near doubles.

Here are some ladybirds that are showing doubles. Can you have a go at solving these at home?

English

In our English learning, the children have been learning how to use the suffix -est to make adjectives even greater. For example green -> greenest, big -> biggest. We even learnt some rules such as if an adjective ends in a y, replace it with a i such as angry -> angriest. We used words with suffixes to describe the castle, the beanstalk and the castle in Jack and the beanstalk. We also wrote the problem of the story of Jack and the Beanstalk as well. Look at the words below. Which of these words would you pick to describe a beanstalk, a castle, and a giant?

Science

This week, as we have now entered the season of Spring, I thought we could have a break from our Geography learning to do some science observation work on the season. We learned all about the changes that we can see in Spring, and then on Wednesday we went on a Spring walk to observe changes. Here are some photos of us in action! Can you tell a grown-up how you know it is Spring?

Phonics

This week, we learned three new graphemes. We learned about the wh digraph making the /w/ sound. We learned that the letter e can make the /ee/ sound. We also learned that the letter o can make the /oa/ sound. Please use the time to read sheets to practise any sounds from this week.

Dictation Sentences that we will be practising;

What did we begin?

Phil was silly with Ben. He had to go.

It was sunny and rainy on Sunday.

World Book Day

We had a fantastic time celebrating World Book Day! We made character top trumps from the books that we brought in, we did some writing about Jack and the Beanstalk. We also played the "Masked Reader" where we got to listen to some funny voices from staff in school. We even had time to make some character spoons as well! You can find photos of our day below.

Parents Evenings

Your child should have a slip with their Parents' Evening time and date. I have tried my best to accommodate everyone's preferences, but if you have not received the right day or time allocation, please let me know.

Have a lovely weekend!
