WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Week 7

This week we have asked the question, ‘who helps to keep us healthy?’  We made a list of all the people who keep us healthy such as doctors, nurses, dentists and our parents!  We talked about hospitals and the children’s experiences of hospitals, if they had ever been there.  We learned all about what happens in a hospital and loved playing in the hospital role play.  We also talked about our experiences of the dentist and talked about how we need to take care of our teeth by brushing twice a day, visiting the dentist and not eating too many sugary foods and drinks.

We carried out an experiment to find out what drinks were good or bad for our teeth.  We placed an egg (to represent our teeth) in 4 different drinks – water, coca-cola, milk and orange juice.  We talked about what we thought would happen to the egg shells and will find the answer next week!

In English we talked about instructions to brush our teeth.  We ordered 4 pictures to help is talk about what we did, using language of first, then, next and finally.

In maths we learned about repeating patterns.  We all made a 1-2-1 repeating pattern using natural materials, such as conkers and sticks.  We then tried to spot our teacher’s mistake with her pattern and put it right.  We also tried to make 1-2-3-1-2-3 patterns too. The children did really well!

In Monster Phonics this week we learned the sounds b and h.  The children are practising recognising these sounds along with the others that we have learned so far. We also practise building simple cvc words and reading them by breaking them down into their single phonemes like robots.  We have sent home the third set of tricky words for the children to learn.  Please try and keep these in their reading diaries.  More will be sent home during the year.

Please see the video in the Monster Phonics section of our class page to see the actions for these sounds and practise those from the start to r.
