What a fantastic week back in the Otters!
We have got back into our routines really easily and worked really hard. In English we have started our new unit based on 'The Kapok Tree' by Lynne Cherry. It's really captured their imagination and has linked perfectly to our work on Brazil and in particular, the rainforest. Within these lessons we have used our prediction skills to draw a kapok tree, predicted the ending, written in the style of the author and answered questions about the story.
In maths, the Year 4s they have carried on their work on perimeter and will start fractions next week. Year 5 have continued to look at decimals and looked at thousandths, both in fraction and decimal form.
Our topic work has been based around trade and looking at what exporting is. Then, we compared British exports and Brazilian exports. In PSHE we looked at a brilliant story called 'It's not okay to say gay' where we looked at when the term 'gay' is used negatively. The children then created a poster to educate others. In science we have started our new unit: living things and their habitats. We focused on reproduction within plants and the process of pollination. In Music the children have started a new unit which is normally a favourite - the Fresh Prince of Bel Air!
Finally, it was Mrs Pushkrarich's last day on Thursday and I know the Otters will all really miss her, and she will miss the Otters! We wish her well for her adventure to Ohio and Mrs Cotton will keep her in the loop!
Miss Hobbs will be starting to spend some time with the Otters over the upcoming weeks, either with Mrs Cotton or on some Thursdays as the class teacher.
Have a lovely weekend and let's hope the sun stays out!
