WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Week Commencing 5.5.25

What a short week it has been this week! With a bank holiday, and water issues causing a school closure, it has been quite a quick and strange week. Look below to find out what we have been doing this week.

Maths

In our Maths learning, we have been continuing with our learning on multiplication and division, and we have learned how to group and how to share. In mathematical terms, sharing means means to split a set of objects into equal groups. Grouping means means to take out equal smaller groups of objects from a bigger set until there are none left. These are the building blocks to children learning the multiplication and division symbol in Year 2. We have practiced grouping and sharing objects this week. Here are some pictures below!

Challenge - How many groups of 2 can you make from this?

Challenge - How many groups of 5 can you make from this?

Challenge - How many groups of 10 can you make from this?

English

In our English learning, we have started a new genre of poetry. First, we wanted to see what a poem looks like. We wanted to link our learning back to the stimulus of 'Bridge'. We looked at a poem all about bears, as there was a bear in the clip of Bridge. We learned that poems are very imaginative and creative. Some poems have rhyme, and some don't. Here is a poem below that we looked at in class. Can you find the rhyming words in the poem?

We also had a go at coming up with rhyming words. We learned that rhyming words have the same end sound. Words that rhyme can have different spellings such as cheese, peas and knees. Can you think of any rhyming words to go with these words?

Science

In our Science learning, we have been learning how to classify animals. We learned that vertebrates (animals with a backbone) can be sorted into 5 groups; mammals, reptiles, birds, amphibians and fish. We watched a really fun video about the 5 groups which you can watch here. We then had a go at sorting animals into the 5 groups. Look at the animals below; which animal group do you think it belongs to?

Challenge 1 - What group does a 'whale' belong to?

Challenge 2 - What group does a 'bat' belong to?

Challenge 3 - What group does a 'platypus' belong to?

Computing

This week, the children have learned how to use software on an IPAD to edit photos. We learned about resizing, cropping, colour filters and more! Here are some edited photos from the Hedgehogs class!

Phonics and Spellings

In our Phonics this week, we have recapped the oa, oe, ou and ow digraphs. Please use the Monster Phonics Booklets to practise any sounds that your child may find difficult.

Have a lovely weekend!
