WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

29.11.24

We have had another wonderful week in Foxes class! Find out more below!

In English we have been learning about non-chronological reports. On Monday, we looked at a selection of reports, identified the main features and created our own toolkits! Then we looked at our WAGOLL, All about WW2, to see if it contained the same features or not. We identified that nearly all non-chronological reports have heading, sub-heading, pictures, “did you know?” sections, paragraphs and glossaries! We have started our own research, which we will continue next week before writing up our very own non-chronological reports!

In Maths, Year 4 have been learning about the connections between the 3, 6 and 9 times tables. We have also started learning about the 7 times tables! Did you know that you can use your knowledge of the 2 and 5 times tables to help you with your 7s? For example, 7x8 is the same as 5x8+2x8! The children enjoyed listening to this song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioE9AW6IXN4 and some even told me that it had been stuck in their heads all day!

In Year 5, we have continued our learning about fractions, we have been comparing fractions greater and less than 1 and have started learning how to add and subtract fractions with the same denominator. Remember, you can only add and subtract fractions when they have the same denominator! Watch this video to help you remember that rule! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-UiFEXHhRMM If they don’t have a common denominator you need to find one! That is where your understanding of times tables comes in!

In Science, we have been thinking about electrical insulators and conductors and reminding ourselves of the facts we learned about last year! Next week we are going to be completing an investigation based on this.

In History, we have continued our learning about WW2, we have learned about propaganda posters that were used during the war and about the jobs that women did when the men had been gone away to fight. Ask us why the women who worked in the munition factories were called ‘Canary Girls’!

We have a very busy (but exciting!) few weeks coming up in our lead up to Christmas! I am really looking forward to our trip to Beaumanor at the end of the half term. It should be an amazing experience for all the children and an excellent way to complete our topic!

Have a super weekend!
