Welcome back to our final half-term of this academic year! I hope you all had a lovely, restful break. It has been quite awhile since I have seen the Hedgehogs, and I missed them very much. We have had a lovely week this week. Mrs Ward even made a return to our class as well. Mrs Ward is settling back into routine following a bout of illness so she will be with our class Look below to find out what we have been been learning about.
Maths
In our Maths learning, we have been learning all about numbers up to 100. We started the week by partitioning numbers into tens and ones, using part-whole models. With Mrs Ward, we then looked at where we can put numbers up to 100 on a number line. We even had a practise at estimating where numbers belonged on a number line which was quite challenging! We played a really fun game to practise estimating the numbers, which I have provided a link below - the children loved it!

We also practised comparing numbers up to 100. We learnt that we can look at the tens digit to work out if a number is greater or less than a number. If the tens digits are the same, then we look at the ones digit instead! There is a game here which you can play to practise comparing numbers!

If you want to practise comparing, here are some numbers below! Can you use < , > or = to compare the numbers?
Here are some pictures of us building numbers up to 100 and partitioning them into tens and ones!
English
In our English learning this week, we have started a new stimulus. We have been watching an animation video called "Adventures are the Pits". You can watch the video here for yourselves at home: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5zr9aiWQ8Tw.
We have been watching the video so we can learn the skills to write a Tale of Fear story.
This week, we have been learning some certain features to help us with writing this story, such as writing in the past tense using the suffix -ed, and writing using the conjunction 'and'. We then wrote the story of Adventures are the Pits using these features.
Have a look at these 5 pictures from the animation. Can you write/say a sentence about each one?
Phonics and Spellings
This week in our Phonics, we have been learning all about the /or/ phoneme. We have learned 4 different graphemes of or, or, ore, aw and au. Please use the Monster Phonics booklets to recap any digraphs that your child may struggle with.
There are no spellings set for this week. Instead, I have provided a list of real and nonsense words for children to practise reading in the run up to the Phonics Screening Check. Please use the time to read these words, and any sounds that your child is struggling with, use the Monster Phonics booklets to practise those sounds.
I have included the sheets below as well.
Have a lovely weekend!
