In recognition of World Book Day this week, we spent our English lessons this week looking at the story ‘Journey’ by Aaron Becker. This was a very interesting book as there were no words but the children did a great job of understanding the story through its beautiful illustrations. As part of this, we did some work on speech, predicting what the characters would be saying; sequencing events; writing in the past tense and writing a dramatic action sequence. The children produced some super writing this week.
In Maths, the Year 4s have started their work on fractions and Year 5 have compared and ordered decimal numbers. Next week the Year 5s will start their work on percentages.
In topic this week, the children have been learning about physical and human features and had a go at sorting Brazilian landmarks and tourist spots. They showed a really good understanding of this subject.
In RE the children recreated some Islamic art, they have continued 'Fresh Prince of Bel-Air' in Music, and discussed cyberbullying in PSHE.
On Thursday (World Book Day!) the children dressed up and had a potato-fantastic day. We completed a range of book-related activities and designed and created our own book character potato! At the end of the day, we had a potato parade in the playground where we had the chance to look at all the other potatoes across the school!
Next week is Science Week and the children will be looking at the theme of 'change and adapt'. The Year 4s and Year 5s will be learning about slightly different things as the Year 5s will cover human changes, similar to their work in PSHE last term. We will also be out on Thursday afternoon to watch The Addams Family at Repton - another busy week!
