WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Week 3 - 27.4.26

We have had a really exciting week this week! We have done lots of fun science experiments this week all to do with animals. We have also completed a big unit of work on 'Bridge' in our English learning this week as well. Look below to find out about these lessons and more!

Maths

In our Maths learning, we have been continuing with our learning on multiplication and division, and we have learned how to group and how to share. In mathematical terms, sharing means means to split a set of objects into equal groups. Grouping means means to take out equal smaller groups of objects from a bigger set until there are none left. These are the building blocks to children learning the multiplication and division symbol in Year 2. We have practiced grouping and sharing objects this week. Here are some pictures below!

English

In our English learning, we have been planning and writing letters from the perspective of the bear from the story of 'Bridge'. The children pretended they were bear writing a letter to the rabbit and the raccoon, explaining why they were sorry for their actions. The children created some fantastic letters and even got the chance to pretend to deliver them home to be read in actual envelopes!

Science

In our Science learning, we have been learning how to classify animals. We learned that vertebrates (animals with a backbone) can be sorted into 5 groups; mammals, reptiles, birds, amphibians and fish. We watched a really fun video about the 5 groups which you can watch here. We then had a go at sorting animals into the 5 groups. Look at the animals below; which animal group do you think it belongs to?

Challenge 1 - What group does a 'whale' belong to?

Challenge 2 - What group does a 'bat' belong to?

Challenge 3 - What group does a 'platypus' belong to?

We also have been learning about carnivores, omnivores and herbivores. We learned that carnivores are animals that eat other animals, a herbivore is an animal that eats plants, and an omnivores is an animal that eats both animals and plants. We did an experiment to work out what certain animals were by observing what was in their 'poo'! The children used sticks to prod and observe what they could find in the poo to determine whether an owl, a tortoise, a frog, a bear and a shark are carnivores, omnivores or herbivores. Look below to see some photos of us experimenting! What did you see in each animal's 'sample'?

Computing

This week, the children have learned how to use software on an IPAD to edit photos. We learned about resizing, cropping, colour filters and more! Here are some edited photos taken by the Hedgehogs class!

Phonics and Spellings

In our Phonics this week, we have recapped the ee, ea, ea, and er digraphs. Please use the Time to Read booklets and QR codes to practise these words, as well as practising reading the real and nonsense words from the weekly QR codes that were given out on Tuesday.
