WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Week 5 - 11.5.26

We have had an awesome week in the Hedgehogs class! Look below to find out what we have been doing below!

Maths

In our Maths learning, we have been learning how to quarter objects. We learned that for many objects like squares and circles we can half the object, and then half the object again. For many objects, it does not always work like that and so not all objects can be quartered. We then learned to recognise a quarter of amounts. We learned that unlike halving, not all even numbers can be quartered! The children were really good at showing quarters by dividing amounts equally between 4 groups. Have a go at these 2 challenges below to test your knowledge of quarters!

Challenge 1 - Which of these pictures shows quartering? Remember there needs to be 4 equal groups!

Challenge 2 - Can you complete the sentences below? Draw 4 groups if you need to work this one out!

English

In our English learning this week, we have continued our work on the animation video called "Adventures are the Pits". You can watch the video here for yourselves at home: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5zr9aiWQ8Tw. We have been learning how to write sentences about the stimulus using subject, verb and object. Can you think of a sentence using the orange, yellow and green rectangles below to create a sentence? Remember that you may need other words to help make the sentence make sense!

We have also been learning how to use the time conjunction 'First', 'Next', 'Then', 'After that', and 'Finally' to sequence the animation and imagine.

Have a look at these 5 pictures from the animation. Can you write/say a sentence about each one using the time conjunctions?

DT

In our DT learning, the children have been designing their own "made-up" animal by combining two animals together. The children designed which parts of their animal would move either via lever, pivot or slider. The children then made them on Wednesday. I was very impressed with how they did with this! Here are their moving animals below!

Computing

In our Computing lesson, we looked at how we can find photos on the internet and edit them using Sketchpad. The children went onto the Google search engine to find animals of their choice and then copy and paste them onto Sketchpad. They then used the filters button to edit the colouration and size of their images. Here are some photos of their work below!

Phonics and Dictation

In our Phonics this week we have been recapping the oa, oe, ou, and ow digraphs. Please use the Time to Read booklets to practise these sounds.

Dictations to practise;

  • The goat was on the boat.
  • We have five toes.
  • I found a pound on the ground.
  • The brown cow has a crown.

Have a lovely weekend! One more week to go until the May half term!

Mr Armishaw and Mrs Ward.
