One more week to go! You can tell we are winding down to the end of the year, not only because we are all hot and tired, but as we finish off our lessons and start to do some nice, relaxing activities to end the year on. Have a look at the learning below to find out what we have been doing.
Maths
In our Maths learning, the children have been continuing their learning on money. This week, we have looked at pound notes such as £5, £10, and £20. We looked at how we can add coins and notes together to form amounts. On Wednesday and Thursday, we practised being shopkeepers and put price tags on various items around the classroom. We then took turns being shopkeepers and customers in buying items using fake money! The children loved it! Here are some photos below, as well as some activities to consolidate our learning.

English
In our English learning, the children planned and wrote their own stories based off The Queen's Hat. I showed the children how to create their own story by planning a story called "Mr Armishaw's tie", where his tie blows away to all different parts of Repton. The children then imagined their own story where something disappeared, and the places the tie would go to. The children loved producing this piece of wriitng, and what a lovely way to finish their Year 1 writing journey! Who was your character? Where did your character go? What did they lose? Who helped find the object that the character lost? How did it get back?
Science
In our Science learning, we finished off our learning on Everyday Materials and we are finishing off our final unit of Seasons. We went outside and decided to spot the signs of Summer in the field. What can you tell your grown-ups about the season of Summer? What might you see outside? What might Summer feel like?
We then created season wheels to compare the different seasons. We learned the order of the seasons and discussed which months were in what season. Can you tell your grown-up what season your birthday is in? Here are our season wheels below.
Phonics
In our Phonics learning, we have been learning about contractions. Contractions are two specific words that are 'squashed' together, and where one or more letters are removed and replaced with an apostrophe.
See if you can get your child to spell the contracted forms of these words.
He + has = __________
They + have = __________
She + will = ___________
It + is = __________
do + not = ____________
could + not = ___________
One more week to go Hedgehogs! Have a lovely last week!
