WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Week Commencing 7.7.25

I cannot believe that we have only 2 more weeks until the end of this year! The Hedgehogs are still working incredibly hard, but I know with the hot weather and the busy term that we are having that we are all starting to lose a bit of energy!

Before I talk about what we have been doing this week, you should have received your child's end of year report via Parenthub. Please take note that your child's Phonics Screening Score can be found on the page after the general comments, in a little grid. If you do have any questions, please just let me know.

Please look below to find out what we have been doing in our learning this week.

Maths

In our Maths learning, we have spent the week learning all about money. This week, we have learned about all the coins in the British currency. We have also learned about notes such as £5, £10, £20 and £50. We even had a go on Friday at making amounts using coins and notes too and we pretended like we were buying things from a shop! I have attached some photos of our counting towards the bottom of the Maths section.

Here are some challenges below which you can have a go at!

Identify the coins (in p and £)

Identify the notes and coins (in £)

Work out the value of both sides and then compare using <, > and =.

English

In our English learning this week, we have been planning and writing our own story in the style of The Storm Whale. The children created their own opening, build-up, problem, resolution and ending to their finding tale stories. The children all produced amazing stories. We even looked at our first piece of writing in Year 1 and looked at our writing now to see how far we have come in our writing journeys!

Science and DT

In our DT work this week, we finished off making our pop-up books! We linked our plant learning with our DT and created 3 pop-up book pages all about plans and nature. The children did a fantastic job of making their pop-up books come to life! We then evaluated them and gave each page a score out of 5. Here are some pictures of some of our pages below.

PSHE and Computing

In our PSHE learning, we were learning about how we can be friendly to others. The children read the story of the Rainbow Fish with Mrs Tarrant and then the children created their own versions of the Rainbow Fish by using different characters.

In our Computing learning, we have finished off our unit on Data by creating our own invention that can create some data. The children worked in pairs to create a device that can find out the number of minibeasts in forest school. We had some fantastic creations such as 'The Bugulator', 'The Hoover Scanner' and the 'Bug Scanner'. I think we have some future inventors in the class!

Phonics and Spellings

In our Phonics learning, we have been learning about some more contractions this week. We have also been learning about how to read and spell the Months of the Year, Colours and Days of the Week.

This week was our last Spelling Test. This was because I do not want to set any spellings to learn for our last two weeks together.

Have a lovely weekend!
