Maths
In our Maths learning, we have continued our learning on numbers up to 50. We have been looking at how we can count in groups of ten and groups of ones. We learned that it is easier to count numbers first by counting the tens first, then count the ones afterwards. Here is a question you can do with your grown-up to help practise groups of tens and ones.

We have also learned this week how we can partition numbers up to 50 into tens and ones. You can practise counting tens and ones by playing this place value basketball game! I also have a tricky problem below that you and your grown-up could have a go at too!

We have been learning about how to use number lines up to 50. We have also been learning how we can estimate numbers on a number line when there are no numbers on a number line at all, other than the start and the end of the number line.

English
In our English learning, we have been dedicating this week to learning about poetry. We started the week off by learning about what rhyming words. We learnt that rhyming words are words that have the same end sound, but they can be spelt differently. We then looked at creating sentences that rhyme. We finished the week by also looking at senses poems as well.
Geography
In our Geography learning, we have been learning about the differences between Kenya and the UK. We have been learning about how the UK and Britain, although are in two different continents, have a lot of similarities in terms of physical features and human features. Have a look at the Venn diagram below, and the list of features that are below. What features do you think are in the UK? Which ones do you think are in Kenya? Which ones do you think both have?

Art
In Art, the children used their plans from last week to create their own 3D sculptures of famous buildings. The children used different paper rolling strategies to help bring their buildings to life. The children worked really hard to create Sydney Opera House, Burj Khalifa, The Eden Project, Saint Basil's Cathedral and The Kuggen Building in Gotherburg. Here are some pictures below.
Kenya Link-Up
The Hedgehogs got to experience an exciting opportunity to start the week. of! Mr Tague, who works with some schools in partnership with Kenya, offered us the chance to interact with some schools in Kenya. We also had a chance to speak to a ranger who works in conservation, particularly protecting and helping animals who are in danger from being poached. We got the opportunity to ask questions, and watch some videos about the animals that live in Kenya. It was a really lovely experience!
Phonics
This week, we have been recapping the split digraphs a_e, i_e, and e_e. Please use the Time to Read sheets to recap any sounds taught this week.
You will also find an A4 sheet with QR codes and a smaller sheet with a single QR code. These resources are to help your child practise for the upcoming Phonics Screening Check in June.
I will be issuing a different small sheet with a QR code each week. Please take the time over the half-term to practise reading over the half-term.
Most of all, have a lovely restful break! I look forward to seeing you all in April.
