WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

Week 4 - 22.6.26

What a HOT week! I am so proud of how the children have handled the heat, and I am so proud of them for how they did with Sports Day - they did so well! Thank you for all the support with collecting children and communicating with me during this weird week.

Although we haven't done much learning this week due to the heat disruption, I have attached activities that you are more than welcome to do during your child's time at home (unless they are in the paddling pool or making the most of the sunshine safely!)

Look below to see the learning and activities below.

Maths

In our Maths learning this week, we completed our unit on volume and capacity. The children looked at comparing containers and seeing how much water they could hold. They used 'crocodiles' (<, > and =) to compare capacities.

I have attached a PDF sheet with some activities to try at home if you would like to continue the learning we have done at home during the heatwave that we are having;

I have also attached some games about volume and capacity below which might be good too!

English

In our English, we have planned and finished off our unit on instruction writing. The children wrote some fantastic instructions on how to rescue Beegu. The children carefully thought about what materials and steps they would follow to send Beegu the alien back to space. The children used time conjunctions, the conjunction 'and', and wrote using 'bossy' verbs.

If you would like your child to do some writing during this heatwave, could they write a set of instructions on how to stay cool during the heatwave so that other children know how to be safe in the heat!

Can you use;

  • First, Next, Then, After that, Finally.
  • The conjunction 'and' to add more information to your sentences.
  • Bossy verbs to tell the person reading exactly what to do!

DT
In DT, we started to design our own pop-up plant book. We started to draw out what things we want to include in our book. This week, we were going to start making them, but due to the circumstances of the heat, we did not get round to doing that, so we will be doing it next week instead.

If you would like to practise some craft work in this heat, follow these steps to doing a pop-up rose in practise for next week!

Phonics

In our Phonics learning this week, we started off recapping the y phoneme, and the ph (/f/) digraph. We didn't get round to doing Wednesdays, Thursdays or Fridays lessons with Sports Day. I have attached them here if you would like your children to go through and read them. They should be able to read these words relatively unaided.

Phonics PowerPoints from this week during the heatwave!

I have also attached some activities below related to these lessons if you and your child would like to have a go at them! There is no activity for Friday lessons, but if you would like you can test your child on the spelling of some of the high frequency words from the Friday PowerPoint!

Spelling Shed and Maths Shed

I have set some activities on Spelling Shed and Maths Shed related to the Maths and Phonics we have done the past two weeks;

Transition Day

I am just letting you know that the children will be having a day in the Owls classroom with Miss Tyman and Mrs Taylor-Day on Wednesday for their transition day. The children still need to come to the Hedgehogs classroom as normal and will be dismissed by me as usual. I know some of the children are very excited for this day!

Have a lovely, safe weekend and I look forward to seeing the children for a hopefully normal week next week!
