It has been lovely to have the Otters all back together this week! We have all enjoyed sharing what we have been up to over the last week.
In English, we have started a new unit of poetry. Our stimulus for writing is "The Lighthouse". So far, we have looked at different examples of figurative language. We have been working on: similes, metaphors, alliteration, onomatopoeia, personification and repetition. We have looked at a range of poems to find examples of these features and then we have had a go at writing some of our own.
In Maths in Year 5, we have been drawing, reading and interpreting line graphs. We have been reading and interpreting tables and two-way tables. In Year 4, we have been looking at tenths as fractions and as decimals. We have been representing tenths on a place value chart and also on number lines.
In Science this week we have begun our forces unit with lots of investigations. On Monday, the Otters used Newton meters to measure the weight (or gravitational pull) that each object has and then we compared to it’s mass (how heavy it is). On Wednesday, we used the materials from home to create parachutes to test air resistance. We chose to either test whether the material affected the air resistance more or the size and shape of the parachute. We will continue this next week as well as looking at water resistance.
In RE, we compared the Baptist Church and the Anglican Church and we thought about the similiarities and differences. In art, we looked at a range of 3D installations. We chose a couple to analyse further and we thought carefully about answering questions about them.
