It has been a brilliant first week as Otters and we have got used to the new systems, lessons and topics. We have started our work on the Zones of Regulation and we have read a book called ‘Daisy’s Dragons’ which is all about the role our different emotions play. We have thought about our own emotions and how to transition from the different zones. This work will continue throughout the year.
We have done lots of artwork based around dragons, Zones of Regulation and otters which will make our classroom even more colourful and inviting.
We have got straight on with our Maths learning this week and we have made a great start on our place value unit. We have been looking at lots of different ways that we can represent the numbers up to 10,000. We have been using place value charts, place value counters and base 10 to help us. We have been writing numbers in both numerals and words and we have done lots of counting in thousands.
We were very proud of everyone who prepared a school council speech for Friday. They all spoke with real confidence and thought so carefully about what qualities they had that would make them suitable for the role. We held a vote and we have chosen our school council representatives for this year. A real well done to all as lots of children really did push themselves out of their comfort zone.
We have also started our first Science unit for this year. We will be learning about animals including humans. Today, we have learnt about the different types of teeth that we have. We have learnt the names of each of them and the roles that they do.
