Our Learning
We have had yet another wonderful week in Foxes class! It has involved Science, Science and more Science!
In English this week, the children finished off their Social Media ‘Guides for parents’. We then created our very own social media apps, thinking carefully about the types of apps we wanted to create and what features they would have. After this, we designed persuasive posters to advertise the apps and wrote radio adverts to persuade people to download them! We then got our creative juices flowing as we wrote short stories where our apps were part of the story plot. We finished the week by writing diary entries which explored the feelings and experiences associated with using social media.
In Maths, Year 5 have been using place value charts to represent numbers to 3 decimal places. They have also been ordering and comparing decimal numbers. Year 6 have been consolidating their understanding of area and perimeter. This has included finding the area and perimeter of rectilinear shapes, and finding the area of any triangle.
Science Week 2026 -
Our school has had an exciting and action‑packed time celebrating British Science Week, exploring the theme “Curiosity: What’s your question?” Throughout the week, we moved between classes to investigate a variety of scientific questions and hands-on experiments. In Otters, we explored which vehicle would be best to drive on the moon, while Seals focused on what good teamwork looks like. Over in Puffins, we discovered how boats float, and Foxes delved into the fascinating world of ink investigation.
We even experienced what it might be like to be a bird building a nest—working together and using only a peg to collect sticks and grass was exhausting but incredibly fun! Alongside our practical experiments, we learned about influential scientists Alexander Fleming, Mary Anning, and Peter Tsai, deepening our appreciation for scientific discovery. We also studied food chains, ecosystems, and pyramids of numbers to help us debate whether wolves should be reintroduced into the wild. What an inspiring, curiosity‑filled, and wonderfully busy week it has been!
Children have been given homework to take home this week, which relates to the learning we have been doing in school. We also ask that they practise their spellings, times tables and read at home as much as possible alongside this.
Homework is due on Tuesday 17th March.
