This week in English, we have been busily preparing to write our own Sci-fi stories. We have looked at a range of good examples to get some inspiration and to magpie some good vocabulary, phrases and sentence openers. We then planned our stories and we have now started to write them. There are so many super ideas! We are really thinking about the objectives that we need to include in our writing as Year 4 or Year 5 writers.
In Maths in Year 5, we have started our topic on position and direction. We have been looking at and reading co-ordinates. We have learnt that it is so important to know which is the x and which is the y co-ordinate so that we could solve problems involving co-ordinates. We had some quite tricky questions where we didn't have the grids to help us! We then also started to look at translating shapes and describing translations. In Year 4, we have started our new topic of money. We have been writing money using decimals and converting between pence and pounds.
In computing this week we explored programming the micro:bits and having separate codes for separate buttons which we really enjoyed. In art we explored space art and recreated an image using four separate media: oil pastels, watercolours, line drawing and crayon. We also finished our beach topic in French ready to start music next week!
In Science, we have looked at how the moon affects the Earth. We looked at tides and we have also looked at the different phases of the moon.
We are so proud of how the Otters did in Sports Day on Thursday. They all really pushed themselves and it was so lovely to see everyone giving it their all!
