WE RESPECT, WE TAKE PRIDE, WE SUCCEED

17.10.25

With one week left to go until half term, the Foxes have been busy preparing for our Harvest festival and working hard on their Tudor biographies!

This week, in English, the children were set the task of researching a significant Tudor individual of their choice! They used fact files, books and the internet to find out as much information as they could about their chosen person’s early and later life. They then started writing their biographies and I have been so impressed with their work! They have included all the features that they needed, including past tense verbs, adverbials of time and subheadings! We will be doing our final edits to these next week.

In Maths, the Year 6s have completed their four operations unit of work this week. This has involved identifying square and cube numbers, using the order of operations, learning how to solve calculations mentally, using rounding to estimate answers, and reasoning from known facts. Next week, they will consolidate their learning so far this term.

The Year 5s have been comparing calculations, using inverse operations, and solving addition and subtraction word problems. They have had to use their mathematical understanding to make connections by using the inverse which is quite the challenge!

Our History lessons this week have centred around King Henry VIII, arguably the most famous of the Tudor monarchs. Throughout the week, we explored various aspects of his life, including his family, reign, influence, and his six well-known wives.

First, we examined Henry’s rule over England, discussing key decisions such as his break from the Catholic Church and the establishment of the Church of England. We also considered his power and ambition, ultimately debating whether he was a good or bad leader.

Then, our focus shifted to Henry’s personal life. We delved into his multiple marriages, uncovering fascinating details about each of his six wives and their individual fates. We also began exploring the lives of his children and their roles during the Tudor era.

Year 6 First Aid

On Thursday, the Year 6s were fortunate enough to take part in a First Aid training session. The children were taught how to call 999, spot hazards, help someone who is unconscious, use the recovery position, perform CPR and help a person if they are choking. The children received a huge amount of information and now have a brilliant understanding of some very important life skills!

Homework

Children have been given Maths and English homework this week which relates to what we have been learning about in school. The tasks have been explained in class, but if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. Homework is due in school on Tuesday 21st October.
